Tabitha (Tabitha.org), a mission-focused nonprofit offering Nebraska’s first and only comprehensive line of senior care services, is excited to open a new living community in Lincoln – with a twist. Coming in 2023, Tabitha will introduce the first-of-its-kind-in-the-nation InterGenerational Living Community, which will welcome independent seniors (55+) as well as Bryan College of Health Sciences students. This unique community offers an opportunity for experiences and ideas to be shared across generations, and it effectively confronts three major challenges within our society today: loneliness, lack of affordable housing, and a shortage of healthcare workers.

The InterGenerational community will rise four stories and span over 155,000 square feet. The building will contain 128 units, ranging from micro and studio suites to one bed/one bath and two bed/two bath layouts. In addition, 135 parking spaces will be available between garage and off-street stalls.

“InterGenerational living and purposeful neighboring have the power to change how the world approaches senior living. Loneliness is deadly, and our research shows that college-age students report an even higher degree of loneliness than seniors. That is why this matters so much — joy and gratitude will be felt across generations as wisdom, talents, and stories are shared from one generation to the other.” – Christie Hinrichs, Tabitha president and CEO

Creating a community and a sense of togetherness while offering affordable housing and bridging the gap between generations is crucial.
