We’ve all heard the horror stories about a relative or friend’s unfortunate experience with having his/her wisdom teeth removed. So if you’re older than 25, you’re likely under the impression that having your wisdom teeth removed is going to be a major procedure with a lot of inconvenience involved and the potential for very painful complications. With all of the advances in science and medicine, however, we’ve luckily progressed far past all of the horror stories to what is now a simple procedure with very minimal downtime, discomfort, and free of any complicated after-care instructions. In fact, Strictly Business Magazine President, Paige Zutavern, recently had a great experience with this very procedure as her 21 year old son, Schyler, had his wisdom teeth removed in March by local oral surgeon Dr. Andrew Glenn, DDS, MD.
“Our family dentist had been suggesting that my oldest son have his wisdom teeth removed for over a year, but I kept putting it off because I was expectIng it to be quite expensive and I’ve heard so many stories from people who have had bad experiences. However, that was absolutely not the case on either account with Schyler’s procedure. My husband and I were truly shocked as to how smooth the procedure went as well as how almost completely unaffected our son was afterwards.
We asked around a lot to get a better idea of what to expect, and found that it is very common to split up the initial exam and the procedure into more than one visit. Furthermore, some offices don’t have the capability to do the procedure in-house so they require separate appointments to be made with the hospital and so on. Since my son currently lives in New York, we wanted him to have the procedure done locally so we could keep him close to home to make sure his recovery went smoothly afterwards but we also couldn’t factor more than the one major visit into the timeline. Dr. Glenn’s protocol is to schedule everything for the same day, which is really nice to get it all done and over with in one shot in fact, we were only in the office for an hour in total, and the procedure itself took less than 15 minutes!
Even though our visit was so short, we were still well-informed as Dr. Glenn explained everything thoroughly including what the procedure entailed and what to expect during the healing process. But no kidding, my son felt good enough to go to the gym and get a light workout in later the same day! He experienced minor pain on days two and three but it was manageable simply by taking a couple of Tylenol. Dr. Glenn’s staff is also very knowledgeable and approachable, ensuring that we were comfortable and all of our questions and concerns were addressed.
Our recent visit to Dr. Glenn’s office dispelled just about any misconception I had about getting wisdom teeth removed; I’m honestly ashamed that we delayed getting it done for so long because there was absolutely nothing to be worried about. Not only was the procedure done effectively with nothing more than a simple office visit, but it also cost far less than I had anticipated—by over half of what I had planned to budget, even despite the fact that he had to have all four removed! I highly recommend Dr. Glenn for anyone, young or old, who has been dragging their feet on moving forward with any type of oral surgery. The skill and expertise of Dr. Glenn and his team made for such a great experience, and I truly never thought I would say that about getting wisdom teeth removed!” – Paige Zutavern
