Derek J Kats is an active Realtor and Owner/Founder of Real Estate Avenues: The Brokerage, LLC. Located on the top floor of the Haymarket Square Building, The Brokerage overlooks Memorial Stadium and the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln’s Historic Haymarket District. Derek proudly represents Third Generation Builder and owner Stephanie Krueger Ponce, a local new construction residential homebuilder primarily focused in south Lincoln.
Derek kicked off his real estate career in 2003 when he purchased his first investment property. This was while he was also attending the University of Nebraska where he refined his business and marketing skills and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He continued to develop his passion for real estate and understanding of the local markets as a real estate investor, and in early 2010 decided to start offering those same services to other real estate investors and traditional home buyers/sellers alike. His talents shined through and his client list began to grow at a rapid rate. Derek currently represents several of Lincoln’s top residential investment companies. With hard work, passion, and a strong business acumen, Derek was ranked as the #1 Buyer’s Agent Realtor in his area by the end of 2011. He continued ranking as the #1 buyer’s agent in the years to follow (2012, 2013…) and in early 2014 decided to put his business building skills to work by founding Real Estate Avenues: The Brokerage, LLC.
He formed this brokerage in an attempt to break away from the typical corporate-structured real estate brokerages while offering a more professional experience than a typical upstart brokerage could provide. This system was achieved by taking a “Realtor-in-the-foreground, Brokerage-in-the-background” mentality, spending time educating and training Realtor associates as to his modern professional’s approach to real estate that allowed him to flourish as a top sales agent in a down market when more Realtors were leaving the business than joining. Derek also strives to teach other agents basic and advanced business building practices for turning a profit by way of property investing, delegation of roles to assistants and others, and developing multiple revenue streams not contingent upon how much time was available in the day.
