Right at Home provides in-home care services to clients, including those who are elderly or disabled, who want to maintain independence wherever they call home.  Anne Deterding is the owner of Right at Home.

Tell us a little about your business. – We offer services such as transportation, light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, medication reminders, and personal grooming/hygiene to those living in private homes, independent living/assisted living communities or nursing homes.  Additionally, we offer respite care for family members of clients with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, cancer or who are on Hospice. If family members live out of town, we can offer the peace of mind and confidence that Right at Home is compassionately caring for their loved one.

How did you get started in the business? – My husband and I wanted to give back to this wonderful community and felt like this was the perfect opportunity to serve the people of Lincoln.  The clients each have their own story to tell and I feel like I have been truly blessed in getting to know them and offering a valuable service to them and their families.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – We are implementing a new computer system that will allow client’s families to view the care that their loved one is receiving in real time on their own computer. It is exciting that technology is able to connect families with their loved ones who may live miles away and keep them in touch and updated on the care that they are receiving.

Tell me a little about your family. – I have a wonderful husband of 22 years and three great kids; two sons, a senior and sophomore, who attend Pius and a fifth grade daughter at Cathedral.  They have brought laughter and love amongst the challenges that come with life.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – The biggest turning point has been becoming the owner of Right at Home.  It’s opened my eyes to the opportunity we have as a company to help those who are navigating the next steps of their journey in life.  We strive to hire the best caregivers while maintaining up-to-date technology.  Along the way, we have learned about marketing ourselves and managing a multitude of other things in order to make the business run smoothly.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – My family and I like to take our big, fuzzy dog to the Dog Run.  Of course, it means a mandatory bath for him because he jumps in all of the streams and is completely dirty when we are done.  We also have fun attending my daughter’s volleyball games and swim meets and the boys’ football games in the fall.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – A quote by Dr. Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”  I try to live by those words.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I would love to play the piano.  My 96 year old Grandmother still, amazingly, plays to this day.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Tico’s and Fireworks.
