Tell us a little about your business. – The Lincoln Airport Authority (lincolnairport.com) owns and operates Lincoln Airport (LNK) and is responsible for providing safe, efficient and customer-focused aviation services for the region. In addition to supporting commercial air service, general aviation and military operations, the Authority oversees the development and management of the Airport’s Airpark and surrounding properties to help drive economic growth, business development and connectivity for the Lincoln community and surrounding region.
How did you get started in the business? – I began my career in the aviation industry at 16 years old fueling aircraft at my hometown airport in Austin, MN.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – My biggest professional challenge was the relocation of the Williston, ND airport from its original location to a Greenfield site seven miles away.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Similar to my biggest challenge, the airport relocation was completed on time and on budget throughout a nine-year long planning and construction process.
Tell us a little about your family. – My wife, Maria, and I have two children, Theodora and Killian, as well as a dog and cat.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Taking the risk to move to a new state and new community with my wife for a career opportunity.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Hike, bike, camp or any other activity with my family that involves being outside.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I’ve worked at airports since I was 16, became a private pilot at 18 but didn’t get on an airplane; I wasn’t flying until I was 26.
Who inspires you? – I’ve been inspired by mentors throughout my career who challenged me, trusted me with responsibility and encouraged continuous growth.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “Respect is earned through actions, not titles.”
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Collaborative.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Working Man” – Rush.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Flying, imagine that!
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Mechanical knowledge/building.
Which talent would you most like to have? – Play an instrument.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Commercial real estate development.
