Tell us a little about your business. – AAA-Brown & Family Insurance (acg.aaa.com/austin.brown) is a AAA captive insurance company specializing in home, auto and life insurance as well as being a service provider for our membership. AAA is known worldwide for their roadside assistance but has continued to develop as a strong insurer in the state of Nebraska.
How did you get started in the business? – In the past few years, I had been evaluating a few different business opportunities, and that ultimately lead me to the insurance world. After a career in accounting and working with commercial insurance, I am excited to be working face to face with clients and making sure they’re well taken care of.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – While I would love to say my MBA, starting two businesses in the last year has come with unique challenges that have allowed me to grow as both a leader and an entrepreneur. Now that we are on the other side of opening, surrounding myself with good teammates was the most important item I tackled in the last 18 months.
Tell us a little about your family. – My wife, Lexus, and I met 14 years ago while still in high school and have been together ever since. We have been blessed with 3 kids ages 4, 2, and 1. Getting to be their dad has been life’s greatest gift!
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – One of the biggest turning points in my life was accepting a job offer from a successful entrepreneur who became an infl uential mentor. Being involved in his business shaped the way I think about leadership, service and entrepreneurship. More importantly, it reinforced the value of putting people fi rst. Watching how he invested in those around him had a lasting impact on me and is a major reason I run my businesses the way I do today. It’s important to me to take care of the people around me and give them every opportunity to succeed, because when people thrive, businesses thrive.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – The best piece of advice I’ve ever received goes back to youth baseball. My dad, who was also my coach for nearly ten years, always told me, “You can only control your attitude and effort.” That lesson has stayed with me throughout my life and career. I try to approach each day as if it could be the day that changes the rest of my life. A positive attitude and unrelenting effort are two things completely within our control, and I’ve found they’ll take you farther than just about any other trait.
What is your favorite movie? – The two movies that if I am scrolling and see them they always get chosen have to be Step Brothers and Draft Day.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – My wife and I are huge fans of Piedmont Bistro and has been our favorite date night venue for a few years.
