The DRUM.ARCH Studio provides drum & percussion lessons to students ages 7 and older, no matter what skill level they are currently at, and specializes in snare drum, drum set and mallet instruction. It is the only drum studio that offers group lessons at a discounted rate for “Rudimental” snare drum players. Currently, DRUM.ARCH also offers one free drum lesson with no obligation to first time students. The goal of the lessons offered at DRUM.ARCH is to create positive and efficient practice habits for continued improvement with tempo, dynamics, technique, finesse, speed, confidence, musical understanding and self-discipline. Mature students may also benefit from learning how to hold the drum sticks to keep carpal tunnel syndrome away. Instructor Charles Lindbloom is the owner of DRUM.ARCH.
How did you get started in the business? – My first paying job at age 16 was as a drum teacher for Dietze Music in downtown Lincoln. Now that I’ve been teaching on the side for a total of 38 years, I’ve always thought that teaching was my gift to be shared so now I’m pursuing that passion full time. I also believe that I personally continue to learn from giving these lessons as well.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Marketing and getting my name out to music teachers, parents and students in the Lincoln area.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – This past summer I was the Drum Major with the National Guard 43rd Army Band for the Adjutant General’s Change of Command Ceremony. There’s always been a high degree of honor to lead those professional soldiers and musicians anywhere!
Tell me a little about your family. – I have two grown sons ages 19 and 24 who I’m extremely proud of!
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – The day that I decided to enlist in the Marine Corps in order to perform in the “Commandant’s Own” U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps from Washington, D.C. They helped train me as a musician and a leader.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Go for a relaxing motorcycle ride in a scenic area.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I love to sing and once in a while I can pull of a Frank Sinatra song or two.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – There are no problems, only opportunities! While I know this is true if one can see things from a different perspective, I still struggle with it occasionally.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Compassionate
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas.
Which talent would you most like to have? – Playing the guitar but I think it takes too much time to divide my attention.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Architectural Design
