Tell us a little about your business.

We create custom solutions for a variety of industries, including food processing, pharmaceutical, and commercial printing and packaging—basically any operation that requires taking a raw product from one place to another. Our team has extensive experience in designing and installing conveying systems that suit your business needs. We design, build, and install box, rotary, plastic belt, rubber belt, screw conveyors, augers, gravity, and powered conveyors, all of which comply with relevant USDA and FDA standards.

How did you get started in the business?

I founded Hummer Contracting in 2008 when the market was struggling. I had to figure out how I was going to support my family. I had a background in metal fabrication so my partner at the time and I walked into a facility and got them to hire us. We’ve grown from a team of two to nearly 33 skilled crew members and administrative staff.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

With growth comes challenges. I strive to remain as detail oriented as possible so that nothing falls through the cracks, ensuring that we are providing customers the attention and quality of service they expect from a smaller company.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

We recently gave 100% of ourselves as a company to a meat packing facility during the pandemic. We had to think outside the box and take every precaution against COVID. The facility would have had to completely close if it weren’t for the solutions we were able to provide them.

Tell us a little about your family.

I have three daughters, ages 23, 22, and 16. I’m grateful that Hummer Contracting has allowed me the flexibility to be very involved in their lives.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

I enjoy working on vehicles. I care more about the shine on my cars than what’s for dinner.

Who inspires you?

Individuals that have nothing but do whatever it takes to create something for themselves. I have a similar upbringing.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Those who cannot endure the bad will not live to see the good.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be?

I’d be a rock star.
