Since 1991, Care Consultants for the Aging has been providing licensed, certified caregivers who assist clients with medical and non-medical cares so they can stay independent in their homes.   In addition to the home care registry, Care Consultants updates and publishes the ElderCare Resource Handbook every two years.  Dana Rothfuss is the Branch Manager of Care Consultants for the Aging’s Lincoln office.

Tell us a little about your business. – Care Consultants for the Aging is a home health registry with offices in Omaha, Lincoln, and Des Moines.  We refer qualified and trustworthy caregivers at an affordable cost to go into people’s homes.  We also publish the ElderCare Resource Handbook in all three cities, which serves as a valuable resource for seniors and their family members who live in each area.

How did you get started in the business? – I answered an ad in the newspaper.  At the time I had no idea what CCA did, or even what home health care really entailed.  After eight years, I think I have a handle on it.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I was recently promoted to Branch Manager.

Tell us a little about your family. – I’m originally from Hastings, but I’ve been in Lincoln for 30 years.  My parents are still living in the house where I grew up, and my dad recently celebrated his 90th birthday.  I have one older sister who lives by Malcolm with her hubby and pet chickens.  My immediate family consists of my three rescue dogs.  One of them, a long haired Chihuahua named Stella, comes to the office with me most days.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – I was with LT&T/Alltel for 25 years.  Leaving there was very scary since it was the only place I had ever worked, and I wasn’t sure what kind of marketable skills I had gained.  As it turns out, there was life after the phone company.  The best decision I ever made was to come work for Care Consultants.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I have never been a morning person, so I take any opportunity to sleep late.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I know just enough about Star Trek and sci-fi to be considered a nerd.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Clever.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “I Can’t Drive 55” by Sammy Hagar!

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I can only pick one?  Teleportation would be helpful, but time travel would be really cool.  I would love to go to Woodstock, and maybe go back and give my younger self some advice.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Private Investigator.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The Women’s Room by Marilyn French.

What is your favorite movie? – The Birdcage.

What is your favorite TV show? – The Big Bang Theory.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – 9 South Chargrill.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Oprah Winfrey…maybe she’d give me a car!
