Star City 6: Dave Conde

Krueger Development (www.kruegerdevelopment.com) builds and manages commercial and residential real estate, predominantly in south Lincoln. Dave Conde is the Director of Property Management for Krueger Development.

Tell us a little about your role with the company. – I oversee the property management operations. This includes our commercial properties, of which we have retail, office and warehouse as well as our residential apartment communities. We manage some of the most preferred commercial space as well as the most desirable places to live.

How did you get started in the business? – My career in property management started 21 years ago in my home town of Baltimore, MD. I went to work for a large REIT in 1995 and knew immediately that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I have a passion for this industry and love what I do.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – There are so many but one of them was certainly with Krueger Development. I was hired in 2014 primarily to manage our commercial portfolio. Despite all of my experience in residential property management, I had very limited experience on the commercial side. Fortunately for me, I have had the opportunity to work under Rick Krueger who has taught me a great deal about this business. It has certainly been challenging but also very rewarding to take on this role and I have come to appreciate commercial real estate every bit as much as I do the residential side.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I have won numerous awards, and each time I was proud and honored to have done so. However, I am most proud of those I have been able to mentor. I feel good knowing that I helped guide their careers through my belief in training and education.

Tell us a little about your family. – I live in Clatonia, NE with my beautiful wife, Valerie, and we have three daughters ages 21, 17 and 3.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – The decision to move to Nebraska in 2010 was huge. I’ve met so many amazing people and had so many wonderful experiences, which never would have happened had I stayed in Maryland.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Professionally, the advice was “When in doubt, teach.” This has served me very well. I never stop learning and I never stop teaching. It is the foundation by which I have based my entire career. I continue to serve on the board of directors for the Apartment Association of Nebraska and I chair the Lincoln Education Committee so that I can remain focused on learning and teaching.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – My Way by Frank Sinatra.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I have always said that there is only one thing that has prevented me from pursuing a career as an NFL player. Unfortunately, that “one thing” is talent.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – My wife and I recently founded a charitable organization called A Warmer Day. Our mission is to provide coats to needy children and families. If you would like to learn more about A Warmer Day, please visit www.awarmerday.org.
