Tell us a little about your business. – Parse Software (parsesoftware.com) is a technology and software development agency that helps growing businesses figure out how to better use software to streamline and improve their operations. That can range from simple consulting to fully custom application development. Whatever it takes to eliminate inefficiencies and make things run smoother.
How did you get started in the business? – I started Parse Software because I’ve always loved solving hard problems, and I saw a growing need for small and mid-sized businesses to better understand and use technology. At the time, a friend from college was thinking along the same lines, so we decided to go for it and start our own business.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Starting a business from scratch in my twenties with no real experience, connections or money has easily been one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. Building trust and strong relationships with clients and partners takes time, and there aren’t really any shortcuts. That said, I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
Tell us a little about your family. – My family is amazing. My parents are dolphin trainers in Roatan, Honduras. My mother is involved in some of the foremost research in the world regarding dolphin behavior and communication. I have two sisters who live in Florida, one is a nurse and the other is in radiology. In Lincoln, I live with my beautiful girlfriend, Carly, and my 3 dogs: Bodhi, Lucy and Finn.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I grew up on a small Caribbean island off the north coast of Honduras and I speak Spanish fluently.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I think it would probably be teleportation. I’d like to be able to bounce around to different places to experience different things WITHOUT having to deal with travel. That would be amazing. Airport lines and airplanes give me anxiety. Not having to deal with any of that would be huge. And you could visit your family anytime you want.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I’m an absolute gamer.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I’d like to give being a lawyer a shot. I have a tremendous ability to argue and I think court could be a lot of fun. Law school maybe not, though.
What is your favorite TV show? – My all-time favorite show, which is hard to beat, is The Office. More recently, I really enjoyed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – My favorite local Lincoln restaurant is probably The Oven. Honorable mention goes to Blue Orchid. Their khao soi is a favorite in our house.
