Located at 40th & Normal Blvd., HoriSun Hospice (www.horisunhospice.com) is a locally owned and operated hospice agency that provides compassionate end-of-life care with a staff dedicated to the dignity and comfort of the patients and their loved ones. Bob Bleicher, MD is the Executive Director and Medical Director at HoriSun Hospice.

How did you get started in the business? – Twenty-five years ago I received a request to work for a hospice organization in Lincoln and I have been honored to be involved in the industry since.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Receiving patients early enough in the course of their illnesses to make an impact on their lives and the lives of their families.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Developing a professional staff that is considered by many to be some of the best and most experienced in the business.

Tell us a little about your family. – I am married to wife Staci of 42 years. We have two children, Ben and Jeremiah, and two grandchildren. We also have two dogs and a cat.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Becoming a physician and establishing a successful practice.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy landscaping and improving the world.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I’m like an open book. There probably isn’t anything about me that everyone doesn’t already know.

What are you the most proud of? – I’m hoping that over the years, as a physician, that I have made a difference in peoples’ lives.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Live every day to its fullest because there may not be a tomorrow.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Compassionate.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – Climb Every Mountain, one of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classics from The Sound of Music.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – To be able to make wishes come true.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Cooking.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Artistic talent.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Chef.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Those that help people in need, particularly Clinic with a Heart, the Lancaster County Medical Society, Planned Parenthood, and the Center for People in Need.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari.

What is your favorite movie? – Blazing Saddles.

What is your favorite TV show? – You may find it hard to believe, but I do not watch television.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Venue Restaurant & Lounge.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Albert Schweitzer.
