Tell us a little about your business. – Katniss Clinic (katnissclinic.janeapp.com) is a boutique plastic and reconstructive surgery practice in Lincoln that offers patients highly personalized care for both aesthetic and reconstructive needs. We opened our doors to patients on January 2, 2025.

How did you get started in the business? – I have been in practice as a plastic surgeon since 2020, but I have always been employed by a hospital or group. In the fall of 2024, I had the opportunity to make a career change and it was the encouragement and “cheerleading” from my own patients that inspired me to open my own practice here in Lincoln. I will be forever grateful to them.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I think healthcare in general has many challenges, especially as it relates to insurance-related services and patient care. There are many obstacles and more seem to be created every day.

Tell us a little about your family. – I am the oldest of seven children and I grew up near Lake Okoboji in Milford, Iowa.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – After more than 20 years on the East Coast, in 2022 I decided to move back to the Midwest to be closer to family and to practice as a plastic surgeon in a more rural, farming community.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I speak Spanish.

Who inspires you? – So many people. I am thankful to be surrounded by inspiring family, friends, mentors, and patients.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Dedicated

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I can sleep anywhere.

Which talent would you most like to have? – To be able to sing and dance.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Probably a trade profession, like electrician, carpenter, or mechanic as I like fixing things and working with my hands. I would also consider being a librarian or a teacher.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Currently, I am most involved with the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events through the American Cancer Society in Nebraska.

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – Japon Bistro, Tandoor and Rosari’s Kitchen.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Leonardo da Vinci
