Kate Meinders realized about ten years ago that she had a passion for esthetics, but going back to school and changing careers was a challenge that she did not tackle until 2005.  She graduated and was licensed by 2005, but never practiced until she was laid off from her job and decided to move back to Lincoln and work with her sister, Kristin Judkins, who owns White Orchid.  White Orchid is a full service skin and hair salon and Kate enjoys performing facial services, microdermabrasion, make up, eyebrow waxing and shaping, face waxing, body waxing and Brazilian waxing services.

Tell us a little about your family.
I am married to Bryan Meinders. He is an extremely talented Master Certified Ford Technician and works at Anderson north. We have two daughters and one son. My oldest is Emma is my helpful 13-year-old. Erika is my sweet-natured 3-year-old and my son Tank, although he is my cuddler, has been working his Terrible Two’s like it’s his job.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
Meeting my husband. He has been a great support to me. From changing my career to esthetics to redecorating a room in the house, he has never told me that I can’t or am unable to do anything I set out to achieve.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Typically, Sunday is my only day off during the week, and like to fill that with my kids, my husband, a big late lunch and (yes, I will openly admit it), NASCAR.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I love to sew. I have been sewing since high school and am self-taught.

What are you the most proud of?
My kids, of course. I have been told several times how polite they are. Saying “please” and “thank you”, and minding others is a knack they have for everybody except me.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Why don’t you just go to work for your sister?” My mom after I told her I had been laid off.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
Expanding White Orchid to accommodate more services and clients.

How would your friends describe you?
Loyal, hard-working, self-motivated, family-oriented and mouthy.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
Cooking.  Making comfort foods from scratch is my specialty.

Which talent would you most like to have?
Writing.  I would love to write a best-seller.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would like to bring up my bowling average. I love the sport but I have no consistency with my swing.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
The Help by Kathryn Stockett. An amazing book. Everyone should read it.

What is your favorite movie?
Mallrats. Jason Lee’s introduction into the acting world. He is hilarious!

What is your favorite TV show?
Lately I can’t stop watching the “Hoarding” shows on A&E and TLC. After watching one of those my O.C.D. goes into overdrive.

What is your favorite Lincoln restaurant?
Kinja on 70th and Pioneers. The people there are great and the food is delicious.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Tank Carder, linebacker for the TCU Horned Frogs and MVP of the 2011 Rose Bowl. Only because he shares my son’s first name.
