Meet Ken Richards, the owner of Brokers Insurance Agency.

Tell us a little about your business. – We are a full-service insurance agency offering personal auto, home, business, and life insurance and employee benefits. We have agents who specialize in personal insurance and they will always strive to find the best coverage at a competitive rate. Our business specialists will work with your company to find solutions that best meet the specific goals of each business. Whether you are looking for personal insurance or business insurance, Brokers Agency will always do what is in the best interest of our client.

How did you get started in the business? – I started in the insurance industry as a life and health insurance agent in 1994 with Woodmen Accident & Life. We specialized in life insurance and employee benefits.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I found a way to survive the first few years in the business and, 27 years later,we are still selling and servicing insurance for our clients.

Tell us a little about your family. – My wife Michele and I have been married almost 22 years. She is an academic advisor at SCC. We have one daughter, Mickena, who is a 19-year-old student at Wesleyan University and works at Union Bank & Trust as a personal banker.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – When I accepted Jesus at age 33. That completely changed how I see other people and live life. It’s my faith in Christ that guides me.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – My favorite hobbies are pheasant hunting, golfing with my friends, and going fishing. I love the great outdoors!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – My dad and I lived at the top of the clubhouse of Hillcrest Country Club when I was in high school. It was like living in a mansion with a golf course and a swimming pool! My friends loved coming to my house.

Who inspires you? – My grandpa and my dad. Dad was also an insurance agent and Grandpa was a golf pro. They were both men of great integrity and character.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – My grandpa Richards said, “Never judge a man’s character by the size of his wallet.”

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Honest.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I caught 42 pennies off my right elbow once.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I am a member of America Legion, Lincoln Berean Church, and I support Tunnel To Towers and Disabled Veterans.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The Bible.

What is your favorite movie? – Forrest Gump.

What is your favorite TV show? – Yellowstone.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Fireworks.
