Tell us a little about your business. – On Point Insurance Agency helps individuals, families and seniors make on point decisions about their health insurance. We help with Affordable Care Act, medical insurance for international travel, dental and vision plans, as well as assisting people with Medicare.

How did you get started in the business? – In 2018, I began working for a local agency whose owners had been in the insurance industry for 30 years. It was great working with an experienced team who were all great teachers. Walking into an established agency was an awesome way to get a lot of experience that would have taken a lot longer to get had I started working by myself. In 2024 after the agency leadership retired, it was time to start my own agency.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have two grown sons who live in Lincoln. One is a journeyman electrician who works for a locally-owned company and is married to a lovely woman who is a designer. They have a chubby cat named George. My youngest works for an animal pharmaceutical company and shares his home with his girlfriend, his English mastiff and two cats.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Puttering. I love having a variety of projects going so I can work on whatever inspires me. That might include a project in the yard, around the house, in my sewing room or picking up one of the many books I have started but not finished.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I love to quilt – and this is actually where the logo for the agency originates. When you make a quilt block and turn it so it looks like a diamond – that is called placing your blocks on point. Quilting and health insurance are actually pretty similar because it’s putting a lot of pieces together to make something work out.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “If you fall down seven times, stand up eight.”

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Quirky.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – The Peanuts theme song by Vince Guaraldi.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I can speak fluent German.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I serve on the board for The Center for Rural Affairs – their mission is to support vibrant, rural communities through business development, collaborative investment and promoting policies.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Recently I reread The Little Prince. It never disappoints and somehow gets better and better the older I get.

What is your favorite movie? – The English Patient is a long-time favorite, and most recently, Dune.

What is your favorite TV show? – Avatar the Last Airbender on Nickelodeon – I have many fond memories watching with my kids.

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – While I am a big fan of many of the small ethnic places around town, The Hub is where I always return for my fix of locally sourced, farm-fresh food.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Jesus’ mother, Mary. That would be enlightening.
