Kurt Kadlec – Star City Six

Advanced Medical Imaging (AMI; AMImaging.com) is the largest independent radiology group in Nebraska. Kurt Kadlec, CPA is the director of finance for Advanced Medical Imaging.

Tell us a little about your business.

Along with a diagnostic imaging center and upcoming surgery center in Lincoln, AMI physician’s diagnose scans from nearly half the critical access hospitals in Nebraska. Advanced Medical Imaging’s full-service radiology facility located at 7601 Pioneers Boulevard provides a high-quality, low-cost imaging option for Southeast Nebraska. The diagnostic offerings at the Lincoln location include MRI, CT, PET-CT, nuclear medicine, image-guided biopsies and X-rays. More mammograms are performed at the AMI Women’s Center than any other private office in the state. AMI has physicians in all specialties in radiology including vascular and interventional radiology. Vascular and interventional radiologist are the surgeons of radiology and are able to treat conditions, which once required major surgery, with image-guided, minimally-invasive procedures.

How did you get started in the business?

I was always interested in how companies developed business plans and made money. So I got into public accounting and had the opportunity to audit and analyze various businesses. After being in public accounting, I decided I wanted to be the person creating the business plan and making operational changes based on financial data. I got started at AMI in 2018. It was a great opportunity because of my prior experiences in health care and the financial industry.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

Keeping our organizational cost down so we can continue to provide low-cost imaging for the community of Lincoln.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

Passing the CPA exam. I spent 10 times the energy and time on passing the CPA exam than any of my other professional achievements.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?

Having kids created new passions, motivations, and responsibilities in my life. They watch your every move and being a great role model brings so much fulfillment in life.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?

My favorite snack is cheese popcorn.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be?

Dependable.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

“Nothin’ But A Good Time” by Poison.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Hitting a golf ball straight.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why?

Special Olympics. I referee basketball and love to see the excitement from the athletes.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?

How Full Is Your Bucket by Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton.

What is your favorite movie?

Good Will Hunting.
