Tell us a little about your business. – I work for Strictly Business magazine as an editor! I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this past May with a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass Communications. I graduated having no clue what I actually wanted to do, but knew I had motivation to do whatever came my way. For Strictly Business, I write a LOTTTT of content, send emails and chat with clients over the phone. I was an intern for about a month here, and then got promoted! I work closely with our art director, Tea, the president of Strictly Business, Paige, and the two interns, Mikala and Haylee. I am highly motivated to build genuine relationships with clients and produce high quality work that promotes the wonderful businesses Lincoln and Omaha has to offer.
How did you get started in the business? – I started looking for jobs before I graduated, and one day, I got a message over Indeed requesting that I apply to be a content writer. I was in the office within a week, writing my first story. I always loved writing and had a good eye for details. It was terrifying in the best way. Paige gave me little direction and wanted to see what I could do on my own. I started writing, and I guess they liked it, because I was promoted quickly.
Tell us a little about your family. – My mom’s name is Sandy; she is a respiratory therapist with Nebraska Medicine and works with cystic fibrosis patients. My dad’s name is Brian; he is retired (lucky duck!) but worked for OPPD for his whole career designing power lines. My parents are the most important people in my life, getting me through so many struggles and giving me all the love and support a girl could ask for. I am also lucky enough to have an awesome older brother named Caleb. He works for a subcontractor and will be helping to manage and coordinate the Omaha Eppley Airfield project.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I hang out with my best friends. I’ve been best friends with them for over a decade, and we all have a beautiful house in Lincoln.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I’ve been painting and doing my nails myself for over ten years. It is one of my biggest passions. Whenever people would see my nails at the restaurant, they would ask where I get them done. Then we would have the routine conversation of why I am serving and bartending when I could be potentially be making more by doing people’s nails. But, I refuse to monetize and potentially ruin my relationship with this hobby. It is my ultimate form of stress relief, shows my artistic process and progress over the years and serves as a huge form of personal expression. I will not be doing it for money. EVER. Oh, I also have a pet rabbit named Milo. He is a netherland dwarf, weighing in at a whopping two pounds; he is full of energy, love and a little rage.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – Zipline Tap & Grill. I work there as a server and bartender, so I might be biased, but they’ve got killer IPAs, the highest quality Old Fashioned in town, great food and some of the best restaurant staff I have met (we all truly love our jobs there and love and care for one another). I have been so blessed to work with all these people and see Zipline Tap & Grill evolve over the almost two years we have been open. The President of Zipline, Mark Lawson is a wonderful man who I am proud to be working under.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? – You can contact me at editor@strictlybusinessomaha.com for press needs, or stop by Zipline Tap & Grill and I’ll make you the best Old Fashioned you’ve ever had!
