How did you get started in the business? – After spending 25 years at Nelnet, I made the decision to take on a new challenge and join the team at ALLO as a Strategic Account Executive. In my role, I partner directly with State, Local, Government, Education, and Enterprise customers to become their trusted advisor. I’ve now been with ALLO for nearly two years, and from the very first day, I’ve truly enjoyed the experience. It’s an outstanding company, defined by its talented people and a culture that makes coming to work both rewarding and energizing.
Tell us a little about your family. – I’ve been happily married to my wife, Michelle, for 25 years. Together we have three sons: Sam, who is currently in law school at the University of Nebraska; Henry, a junior at Nebraska Wesleyan University and a member of their soccer team; and Charlie, a sophomore at Lincoln Southwest High School who also plays soccer. Rounding out our family is Scout, our loyal and energetic dog.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Play golf!
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – In my younger years, I pursued golf professionally, traveling across the country to compete on regional tours with the dream of reaching the big leagues. Eventually, life led me down a different path, and I set aside my clubs to start working in a more traditional career.
Who inspires you? – I am most inspired by my father, Dr. Jerry Spethman. His dedication to his profession, his unwavering integrity, and the way he always led by example have shaped the person I strive to be. He showed me that true success is not only measured by accomplishments, but also by the impact you have on others through kindness, perseverance, and service. Watching the way he balanced his career with his commitment to family has been a constant reminder of what it means to live with purpose and humility.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – If I could be remembered by one word, it would be authentic. To me, authenticity means living true to my values, being genuine in my relationships, and never pretending to be someone I’m not. It’s about consistency between words and actions, and leaving a legacy built on honesty, sincerity, and trust.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “One Day at a Time” by Joe Walsh—because life’s just easier when you don’t overcomplicate it.
What is your favorite movie? – All of the Jason Bourne movies.
What is your favorite TV show? – Modern Family.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – Mulberry’s BBQ.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – I would have dinner with Abraham Lincoln. It would be interesting to talk to him about leadership, resiliency, and navigating division.
