Tell us a little about your business. – Lincoln Federal Savings Bank (Member FDIC / Equal Housing Lender)(lincolnfed.com) is a local bank celebrating 120 years! We specialize in a personalized approach to home lending, personal accounts, and small business banking. My role is to ensure bank compliance, evaluate risk, and do my part to uphold our reputation.
How did you get started in the business? – My grandfather and grandmother owned a small hometown bank in Minnesota. I always dreamed of working in a bank when I was a kid.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Transitioning from the VP of Compliance to the SVP/Compliance Officer. Taking on the new role with the extra responsibility was the biggest challenge so far.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – My biggest achievement is being promoted to Senior Management at Lincoln Federal Savings Bank.
Tell us a little about your family. – I’m married to my wife Reita. We have been married thirty-two years as of this August. We have three children, Alex, Kayla and Tyler. We also have two miniature dachshunds who seem to run the house.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – One of the most defining decisions in my career was moving from a multi-billion-dollar bank to a community bank. It immediately felt like home. Working in a smaller institution aligns with my values and has been far more rewarding, both professionally and personally.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Outside of work, I enjoy spending time fishing and golfing, as well as reading and traveling.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – My favorite quote is….”It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice”. – John Templeton.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Something many people don’t know about me is that, while I’m not currently pursuing my private pilot’s license, I have logged flight hours and spent time in the cockpit gaining hands-on experience. I’m comfortable taking off and navigating a plane in the air, which gave me a real appreciation for aviation—but I’ll admit I still need work on landing.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Another profession I would like is to be a teacher.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – There are so many great restaurants in the Lincoln area that it’s hard to choose just a few favorites. We especially enjoy Big Red and Las Margaritas—Big Red for its laid-back atmosphere and the fun of catching a game, and Las Margaritas for its authentic Mexican cuisine.
