Tell us a little about your business (garymichaels.com). – We are an upscale men’s clothing store. We sell luxury men’s wear with great emphasize on tailored suits and sport coats and accessories. We sell custom and off the rack. We also have great sportswear, including denims and casual. Our reputation is great service, quality name brand products with superb tailoring.

How did you get started in the business? – I started working part time for Gary when I was in college. I worked in our original store in Hastings. I moved to Lincoln in 1998 when I was appointed manager and have been here since.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The pandemic in 2020 was the biggest challenge. The pandemic had a huge effect on our business and our future was unknown. We survived, thankfully, due to our great customers who continued to support us! We then moved our store to Village Gardens. The timing may not have been perfect, but was a great decision for our business.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – The opportunity to purchase Gary Michaels last year has been my most important achievement professionally. My goal is continued success for years to come as the last 43 years we have been in business.

Tell us a little about your family. – My wife Ashley and I have a daughter (Haisley). She is four years old with a lot of energy. They are my rock.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I like to spend time with my wife and daughter. We spend as much time at the pool as possible in the summer.

Who inspires you? – My wife inspires me. She is really positive and has a great outlook on life. She has a great attitude and supported me to purchase Gary Michaels.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “It is never as good as it seems nor is it as bad as it seems.” My parents taught me to treat everyone as I want to be treated.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Dependable. I was taught by my parents to always follow through.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I wish I could see into the future.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I like to cook; my wife thinks I should open a restaurant in my next life.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I have been involved with Teammates for over 20 years. I try and give back and make a difference to kids that need a male figure in their life.

What is your favorite movie? – My all-time favorite would be Caddyshack.

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – Momo, Venue, Carmela’s, The Oven and Fireworks are the restaurants we frequent the most.
