Meet Neal Chloupek, the owner for Usher Custom Cabinets (www.ushercustomcabinets.com).

Tell us a little about your business. – We are a custom cabinet shop and have been around for 45 years. Our services are focused on residential properties. We complete a lot of kitchen and bathroom remodels, but have also done libraries, home theatres, bars, pantries, fireplaces and mantels, entertainment centers, display cases, curios, gun cabinets, and more. Whether you prefer styles that are more traditional, contemporary, or casual, we’ve got you covered. You can call us to discuss your project and then come see our hardware samples in-shop at 3521 N 40th St.

How did you get started in the business? – I worked here for 17 years for Dean Usher, who started this company. I purchased the business from him in January of 2020.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Right now, it’s material. Material prices are changing fast and supply numbers are an issue. It’s been a very unstable market.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Keeping the same crew and working with the same guys for a long time. We have an awesome team here at Usher Cabinets.

Tell us a little about your family. – I’ve got four children, ranging from ages 7 to 16. They are heavily active in sports, and we’re always out on the baseball field. I can’t wait to be back on the grass to watch the oldest play football. My wife Heather is also a business owner of Studio Nine Six Eleven salon and spa, so we are both self-employed which keeps us very busy.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spend time with my family.

Who inspires you? – My dad and my uncles. We have a family that is almost all involved in the trades. My dad and his brothers had a construction company when they were younger. I was introduced to construction at a young age and been enjoying it ever since.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Feast or famine. It’s open-ended. Get busy working and living, or get busy dying!

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Determined.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I’d be able to predict the future.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Well, you don’t get to where you’re at if you don’t use all your talents!

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I’d like to get paid to hunt.

What is your favorite movie? – Tombstone.

What is your favorite TV show? – Yellowstone.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – The Isles Pub & Pizza.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Gandhi. That would be a great conversation. He’s a thinker, and I like that kind of thing. Or Clint Eastwood in character, maybe.
