P&L Technology is a company that specializes in providing customized support to small and mid-sized organization’s computer infra-structure, whether it is in-house servers or cloud technology.  P&L’s foundation is their strong culture and their drive to deliver on their Core Purpose, which is “To Make a Difference.”  Phil Lieber is the President of P&L Technology.

How did you get started in the business? – I am President of another company and about 10 years ago I became very frustrated with my IT support.  I felt the industry was backwards in that they fixed problems on a reactive basis with no proactive planning.  I also felt the service delivery was some of the worst I had experienced.  I felt there had to be a better way, and I focused on a developing a proactive service model.  I have always believed that most service based companies are all the same: Blocking and Tackling! The only difference with an IT company would be the specific product knowledge, but a successful business approach would mirror other companies. We plan with clients and communicate about their business goals in an ongoing manner. We also measure everything. We now manage over 3,500 users. That’s the short story!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Hiring the right people. As I have grown older, I struggle with work ethic and a sense of entitlement and I have had to be creative in meeting the needs of the current work group.  I can’t change individuals, but I have to meet their needs as a business owner working in a very competitive hiring environment.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Developing people and building lifelong relationships with many of our clients. I have started a number of companies and would not have been successful without quality, key people and loyal clients.

Tell me a little about your family. – My wife Sheryl and I recently celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary. She has been involved in every one of my companies, and is truly a lifelong partner. My daughter Sara is a successful businessperson and my son Matt is a sales representative for P&L Technology.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy hunting with my dog and golf.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I love old muscle cars.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? –  Can’t never did anything!   I don’t know how many times my dad said this to me.
