Dark Room Cinema and Moments in Time Images are sister companies owned by Randy McGinnis. Commercial video marketing and wedding videography are the businesses’ main emphasis.  This includes commercials and promotional videos for use in marketing and websites, a variety of videography services for companies looking to display their products and services in a video format, as well as videotaping weddings, events, and other personal video projects.

How did you get started in the business? – I first started wedding videography in the 1980s with my sister. We used camcorders and VHS tapes without any editing and we did several weddings, charging $100 each. Later I did portrait photography for many years. Now I’m back to photography and videography. Everything is much more sophisticated now, from the equipment to the editing process.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Staying up to date on the latest equipment and trends in video can be challenging. Technology changes so fast. We strive to have the most technologically advanced videography equipment possible.

Tell me a little about your family. – I am married to Suzie and I have a grown son, Michael, who is married to April and lives in Omaha. I have a mother and two sisters living in Lincoln as well as several extended family members. Also part of our family is our Yorkshire terrier Casey, bichon frise Milly, and a few cats.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Deciding to get into the videography business again was a big turning point. It required some financial sacrifice to invest in all the necessary equipment but has been well worth it.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I work around on the computer a lot, and not necessarily for work. I am a big news hound and enjoy reading various news sites. I also enjoy posting on Facebook.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I used to be in the ministry and nearly have my second master’s degree.

What are you the most proud of? – My son Mike is who I am most proud of. He is a successful massage therapist and his wife just graduated from nursing school and got her dream job.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Live the dash. Living the dash refers to the date of your birth, the date of your death, and the dash between them on your gravestone.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Humbled. Not so much humble, but humbled.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – To fly. I don’t like planes, but I would love to fly without one.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I grew up playing the guitar and got pretty good at it. I used to play in a band. I broke a finger and can’t play anymore, so it’s a talent I used to have.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Law

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Abraham Lincoln
