Meet Amber Eberly, an RN at Access Family Medicine (accessfamilymedicine.com).
Tell us a little about your business. – Access Family Medicine is the first direct primary care company established in Lincoln, NE. Our office provides the best care to our patients without being tied to the constraints of offices that deal with traditional Insurance. Our providers take on smaller patient loads, allowing our providers to spend more time focusing on your needs, building closer relationships and truly getting to know our patients which increase quality of care.
How did you get started in the business? – I received my BSN, RN back in 2011. I have worked in a variety of different roles throughout my 14-year career. I recently had to step away from a job that required on call, evening and weekend hours which did not work with current life circumstances. My friend who was the nurse for Access Family for 7 years let me know about the company, their philosophy and an open position. I have only been with the company for a few months, but I love having the time to get to know the patients on a personal level and having time to truly listen/assist with concerns. The team at Access Family are kind, knowledgeable and very thankful for the family-oriented work environment.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I would say my biggest professional challenge is establishing a work life balance. Nursing is a very demanding career, and hours do not always work with an active family. Thankful Access Family understands the importance of flexibility and balance for family life. This is evident both for its employees and their availability to their patients.
Tell us a little about your family. – I have been with my husband for 18 years. We have been blessed with five healthy, active kids, four girls and a boy. They are ages six to 17 years old. We also have three dogs.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Sewing, crocheting, crafting or reading books currently. When the weather’s nice I enjoy being outside camping, hiking and tinkering at my parents’ farm.
Who inspires you? – My mom. She chose to go back to school later in life and graduated with her Doctorates the same year my brother graduated high school. She fought and beat cancer. Even though it was a hard fight she did it with a smile on her face while still caring for those around her. She has a big heart, is hardworking, funny and just all around amazing person. I hope to be half the person she is in life.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Focus one doing 1% better every day. After 100 days you will be 100% better then where you started.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – A dog trainer that specializes in service dogs for PTSD, anxiety and mental health services. Dogs have so much to give and love unconditionally. People with mental health conditions have an unseen illness that can be debilitating, but having a dog trained to recognize and decrease the severity of attacks allows individual to be able function living a full life.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Nebraska Hemophilia Foundation. My late best friend has three boys with hemophilia. She was a huge advocate for her boys and others with bleeding conditions.
