Kat Anderson is the Director of Operations at Genuine Global Care (genuineglobalcare.com).
Tell us a little about your business. – Genuine Global Care was founded in 2018 by our President, Essie Dhyliwayo with the goal of providing exception, homebased care with one goal in mind. To keep loved ones in their home as long as possible as well as improving the quality of life to those who we serve. We offer light housekeeping, meal prep, assistance with appointments, respite and companionship services to the Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding communities.
How did you get started in the business? – After having been a nurse for 20+ years, with my last assignment working an hour away, it was important for me to get back to Lincoln, and I realized that I wanted to do something different while still serving the community.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Acquiring my LTC-CIP and rebuilding and running an effective infection control program from the ground up. That was a massive undertaking, and it is one of my proudest moments.
Tell us a little bit about your family. – I am a ridiculously proud mom of 4 kids. Jon, 30; Jordan, 29; Jace, 28; Jocelyn, 27. And an even prouder grandma to 3. Jackson, 6; Paxton, 5; Hudson, 2.
What do you see as one of the turning points in your life? – It was after all my children finished college. After running after college athletes and watching my oldest son join the USMC, my life suddenly became silent. The house was empty and there were no longer activities to attend. I was no longer the background to their foreground, and I really had to remember who I was a person and what goals I wanted to achieve in my own life.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Sleep in. It’s not very exciting, but when I don’t have to worry about getting up at a certain time, I take great pleasure in that.
What is your favorite quote or piece of advice you’ve ever received? – The advice is to always make your bed. No matter how busy you are or what mood you may be in, always make your bed; I always tell the gals in our office that every problem has a solution, you just need to keep trying to find it. Don’t give up; And lastly, if you tell yourself that A- you can’t or that B- you can, you’re going to be right, either way. It depends on your mindset and which one of those options you want. “Do, or do not…there is no try” ~Yoda.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily life? – My ability to sing.
If you could choose only one descriptive to word to be remembered by, what would it be? – Worthy.
What local nonprofit organizations are you passionate about of involved with and are there any special reasons why? – Voices of Hope. They provide hope to those who have been a victim of assault or abuse of any kind along with the gentle reminder that you are not alone. You can overcome anything, if you have hope
What is your favorite restaurant in Lincoln? – Napoli’s, hands down.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – Who’s That Girl by Madonna.
