Meet Mya Wragge, PLADC at Choices Treatment Center (choicestreatmentcenter.net).
Tell us a little about your business. – I am a substance abuse counselor for Choices Treatment Center in our Lincoln office. Choices is an outpatient treatment and recovery facility committed to helping individuals overcome problems related to gambling, substance abuse and mental health, through a holistic approach so all co-occurring issues may be addressed. We have offices in Lincoln and Columbus, as well as a 24-hour helpline which is always answered by trained staff.
How did you get started in the business? – I have always wanted to help people and seeing how big of an issue addiction is, and my mom being a counselor as well, it made me want to follow the same path.
Tell us a little about your family. – My family lives in Grand Island, which is where I grew up. They are one of my biggest supporters and I visit them frequently. My fiancé, Devon Knuth, and his family have also been a great support. I have built a great relationship with them and I am fortunate to have them close now that I live farther from my family in Grand Island.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – I see my biggest turning point being finishing my education and graduating with my masters in mental health counseling. I, myself have struggled with mental health and have always wanted to help others overcome their struggles.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – As a first-time homeowner, on my days off my favorite thing to do is work outside and begin new projects with my fiancé. I love warm weather so I try to get outside as much as possible.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I have been doing my own tattoos since I was 18.
Who inspires you? – The person who inspires me, without a doubt, is my mom. She has always been my rock and I know that I can count on her to help me with and through anything. She has worked so hard to get to where she is today, and I wouldn’t be who I am if I didn’t have her to look up to.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” -Maya Angelou.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Empathetic.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Teleportation so that I can travel the world at no expense.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Esthetician.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The last book that I read was Theme Music by T. Marie Vandelly. I LOVE murder mystery.
What is your favorite movie? – Bridesmaids.
What is your favorite TV show? – Grey’s Anatomy- yes, I have seen all 20 seasons, TWICE.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – The Isles Pub & Pizza.
