How did you get started in the business? – The owner and my husband are friends. He mentioned he was looking for two salespeople, so I asked him to give me a chance and if I didn’t work out he could let me go. I’ve been here for 3 ½ years now.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – As far as working at Headsetters, it was learning the product and becoming a ‘techy’ type person. In the past I dealt with numbers. Now that I have learned it I love my job and enjoy meeting new people every day.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I would say joining the Lincoln Independent Business Association and becoming an Ambassador. I would never have done any of that before I moved to Omaha. Believe it or not I was shy. They have taught me to be more open and being a part of a great group of people has made my profession a lot easier. I also owe a lot of thanks to my co-workers and friends for making me who I am today.
Tell us a little about your family. – My husband Jim and I have 5 children: Wendi, Daniel, Heather, Christopher and Alicia. We are also blessed with 8 grandchildren with another one joining our family in February. And of course there is Daisy our rescue dog.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – I would say it was when I moved from a small town in the Des Moines area to Omaha. I never thought I would leave home and move to a big city. Now I am proud to call Nebraska home.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Absolutely nothing! My husband and I love to go to lunch and run errands, but just relaxing and having no schedule or anything to do is my favorite.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I was a cowgirl. I loved to run the barrels, team rope and bareback race.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Don’t ever give up. ‘When you’re down to nothing, God is up to something.’
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Gregarious.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I would love to be a time traveler. I think it would be great to go back and visit my grandparents and great grandparents when they were kids. They lived a very hard life and I think if everyone could do that they would appreciate more today.
What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Make-A-Wish Foundation. There is nothing more gratifying than to see a child with an illness have their wish come true.
