AAN’s Nebraska Maintenance Academy Awarded FNBO Workforce Stability Grant
The Nebraska Maintenance Academy of the Apartment Association of Nebraska (AAN; aaneb.org) recently was awarded a First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) workforce-stability grant for its ongoing efforts to help workers displaced or suffering the ramifications of the pandemic on their jobs and incomes. The Nebraska Maintenance Academy is a 501(c)(3) launched by the AAN in January 2019 to bring individuals into the multifamily maintenance industry by educating them at no cost. The tuition-free program allows people looking for a new opportunity to begin a rewarding career as a maintenance technician even if they don’t have the finances to obtain costly vocational training.
With a consistently low rate of unemployment in Nebraska—at the same time that the apartment industry continues to grow steadily—the AAN recognized the need to help fill the maintenance requirements of its members. The Nebraska Maintenance Academy’s provision of hands-on, free instruction for individuals looking for a new, meaningful career amidst COVID was a perfect fit for FNBO’s workforce stability grant, which sought applicants that could specifically help displaced workers hit hardest by the pandemic. A subsidiary of First National of Nebraska, FNBO is committed to building stronger communities, including awarding more than $3 million in community development grants to organizations providing COVID-19 relief in May.
