Acton Academy Helps Children Cash In on their Business Ideas at LNK Kidpreneur Fair
Acton Academy Lincoln (actonacademylincoln.com) is giving Lincoln area youth the opportunity to cash in on their business ideas by hosting the LNK Kidpreneur Fair on Saturday, May 15. Presented by Econic, the fair gives youth the chance to flex their creative muscles and business minds as they develop a brand, create a product, build a marketing strategy, and then open their business for customers at the one-day marketplace. The largest entrepreneurship event for kids in North America, the LNK Kidpreneur Fair is open to the public, but come prepared because each business charges real money for real products or services. According to Harsin, most of the youth take out a loan from their parents to get their businesses going and repay the loans from the revenue they earn at the fair.
“Imagine a farmers market or craft fair, the only difference being that every business and product sold is created, owned and run by a 7- to 14-year-old,” said Zach Harsin, co-founder of Acton Academy Lincoln. “We’re grateful to our presenting sponsor, Econic, for helping us make this fair a reality. The goal of the event is simply to provide a platform for youth to experience the power of entrepreneurship for themselves. They learn about profit margins, cost of goods sold, sales, marketing, and so many other amazing lessons they would never learn without simply doing the work themselves. The hard lesson comes when the product isn’t priced right or as desirable as they believed it would be. They can lose money, but better to learn those lessons now than when they’re older and the stakes are higher.”
