HoriSun Hospice Partners with We Honor Veterans to Meet Needs of Veteran Patients
HoriSun Hospice (www.horisunhospice.com) is proud to partner with We Honor Veterans, a national organization that empowers hospices and other healthcare providers across America to meet the unique needs of veterans and their families. The agency is pleased to be a Level 4 We Honor Veterans partner. They strive to acknowledge veterans by recognizing their service through the following:
Pinning Ceremony—A pinning acknowledges the military service and sacrifices made by each veteran and his or her family. The ceremony provides an opportunity for each veteran to share his or her story, and family members and loved ones are invited to attend.
Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer Program—HoriSun Hospice aims to pair veteran volunteers from their volunteer team with veteran patients. When paired with hospice patients who also have military experience, veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each patient. If you are a veteran and looking for an opportunity to serve fellow veterans, please reach out to the HoriSun Hospice volunteer coordinator, Nina Lux, at (402) 484-6444 / nlux@horisunhospice.com.
Quilts of Valor—HoriSun Hospice arranges a special ceremony to award a Quilt of Valor to veterans touched by war.
Flags of Honor—An American flag is available through HoriSun Hospice for each veteran patient to be laid over their body at the time of death. The flag may be kept by the family as a way to remember their loved one’s service.
Additionally, HoriSun Hospice continually educates their staff on unique needs of veterans and how to identify different and innovative ways in which to serve them. HoriSun Hospice has performed Veteran’s Day ceremonies at several senior living communities, as well as Welcome Home Vietnam Veteran ceremonies.
