James Arthur Vineyards to Host 20th Annual Renaissance Festival
Enjoy a day of food, wine and medieval entertainment – James Arthur Vineyards (www.jamesarthurvineyards.com) will be holding its 20th annual Renaissance Festival on Saturday, May 20th from noon to 8pm!
On the 20th, the Society for Creative Anachronism’s local chapter, dedicated to the study of arts and sciences of the Middle Ages, will conduct combat demonstrations in full armor throughout the day on the tournament lawn. The S.C.A will also feature artisans practicing and displaying their different crafts and hobbies as well wandering minstrels, dancers and singers. Archery will be a part of the day’s festivities too. Along with popular fire shows, local talent such as Chris Sayre, The Royal Griffin Acting Company, and Belly Dance Troupes will provide Renaissance style entertainment throughout the day. James Arthur Vineyards will feature tastings of its different styles of award-winning wines, including Mead, which is made from honey. Mead is considered the oldest wine in history, and was very popular throughout the Middle Ages. Food will also be available throughout the festival, including turkey drumsticks, half chickens, and other delectable medieval selections.
This year’s festival will once again feature a large children’s area with games and crafts, with everything from feather writing to castle building. Kids will have the opportunity to make believe by creating costumes and transforming themselves into an array of characters from the age of fair maidens and brave knights.
The admission fee for the festival is $2 per person with all proceeds going to Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters. Guests are welcome to purchase wine and food, and there will be an additional charge for children’s activities, with that money also being donated to HBBBS.
