The Lincoln Young Professionals Group (LYPG) (LincolnYPG.com), a program of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, announces its support for Lincoln on the Move, recognizing the initiative’s role in strengthening the city’s infrastructure, economic growth and quality of life. As part of its mission to foster civic engagement and create a vibrant community for young professionals, LYPG underscores the importance of continued investment in Lincoln’s streets and transportation systems.
Lincoln on the Move, first approved by voters in 2019, implemented a quarter-cent sales tax dedicated to street improvements and new construction, generating $18 million annually. The tax is set to expire on September 30, and an April 8 ballot measure will determine its extension. Without continued funding, street improvement projects could face delays and increased costs.
“Lincoln’s ability to maintain strong infrastructure is vital to attracting and retaining top talent, supporting businesses, and improving the overall quality of life,” said Emma Kwapniowski, LYPG Public Policy Committee Chair. “By staying informed and engaged, young professionals can help shape the future of our community.”
The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce also voiced its support and LYPG’s support for Lincoln on the Move at a recent Lincoln City Council meeting, emphasizing the importance of sustained infrastructure investment for business development, workforce retention and economic vitality.
Public policy and civic engagement are core pillars of LYPG. The organization remains dedicated to educating young professionals about the importance of local and state government. This commitment is reflected in events held throughout the year, including YP at the Capitol, an annual event that helps young professionals gain firsthand knowledge of state politics and policymaking.
As the April 8 election approaches, LYPG encourages young professionals to research the issues, engage in meaningful discussions and vote, ensuring their voices are heard in shaping Lincoln’s future.
