Due to recent changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the government shutdown, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (mtko.org) is seeing a significant increase in the number of guests coming to the community kitchen for meals and to select food items from the Fresh Choice Pantry.
“During this crisis, our doors are open and we will continue to provide the nutrition and services people in our community count on every day,” said Alynn Sampson, executive director. “All are welcome, and we hope those who are struggling with food insecurity, maybe for the first time, will come in.”
Hot, nutritious meals are served every day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Fresh Choice Pantry is open four days a week, and emergency food boxes are available Monday through Friday.
Individuals and businesses can help during these challenging times by:
- Holding a food drive for shelf-stable food, especially canned meats, canned fruits, cereal, and other prepackaged items that don’t require any preparation, like granola bars
- Holding a winter drive for blankets, hand warmers, L- XXL coats, gloves, and hats.
