McKinney’s Receives Support After Break-In, Community Refills Walls with Dollar Bills
McKinney’s Irish Pub (mckinneyspublincoln.com) has received tremendous community support after losing thousands of dollars and years’ worth of memories during a break-in last month that resulted in the loss of many signed dollar bills that famously lined their walls. Community members and neighboring bars flooded en masse to show support and shower the beloved Lincoln pub with new signed dollar bills to help them reline the walls. In just five days after the robbery, the pub had already had $500 in singles donated. Notably, JJ Hooligans and Kinkaider Brewing Co., both just down the street from McKinney’s in the Haymarket, did their part to respond to this heartless act. JJ’s held a Dollar Drive, encouraging people to sharpie a note onto a dollar bill and send it to McKinney’s or drop it at their bar. In addition, Kinkaider dropped off 100 one-dollar bills in hopes of rebuilding the atmosphere. There were even people from out of state mailing dollar bills to the pub! McKinney’s Co-owner Nate Stewart noted that, while many of the bills stolen signified cherished memories of community members, customers, and employees that can never be replaced, it’s amazing to see this generous response from the community.
