Established in October of 1937, the University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union (NUFCU, nufcu.org) held their 85th Annual Meeting on April 11. The original faculty members who organized the credit union felt it was important that their financial information should not be available to their employer, so the credit union is a completely separate entity but continues to focus on the financial services needs of those in the university community. Membership is open to faculty, staff, alumni, students and volunteers of any of the University’s campuses and their families.

An example of giving back to the members is the credit union’s newly launched MakeCents checking. It’s a free checking account with no minimum balance requirement. It also features a debit card that pays you back whenever you use it. Each time a debit is processed, the credit union receives a portion of the interchange fee, so they are passing part of that income along to the member. To keep the account simple, each time you use your MakeCents debit card you get five cents back, which is then deposited into your account at the end of the month. The account also comes with free e-statements and other convenient tools.

University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union offers members a wide variety of full-service consumer banking products and services through a network of three offices located in Lincoln and Kearney. To learn more, call (402) 472-2087 or visit www.nufcu.org.
