Orchard Park Assisted Living Center Celebrates 30 Years of Service
On March 30, 1989, Orchard Park Assisted Living Center (www.OrchardPark.us) opened for service with 74 licensed beds. Now, the established retirement community is celebrating the successful completion of 30 years. Today, Orchard Park serves about 1,080 residents.
Orchard Park has changed over time. When the community was first opened, it only served private pay individuals, as there was not a state Medicaid program. Programs have changed as well and a waiver was developed by the state that allows individuals to have care in an assisted living center instead of a nursing home. Orchard Park now has 50 licensed beds, as the community no longer pairs residents together as roommates unless they are related.
Orchard Park Assisted Living, located at 3110 S. 48th St., was originally founded by Virgil and Jan Carner. Their mission was centered around long-term care that provided more than the traditional nursing home could. The community is committed to a health-first philosophy that emphasizes familiar comfort and creating moments of joy for each resident. Whether it’s growing tomatoes in the summer, playing a few hands of Gin Rummy, doing some craft projects, or just enjoying some quiet time with a favorite TV program, Orchard Park makes it easy for residents to continue the hobbies they’ve always loved.
