OutNebraska Launches Coalition Supporting LGBTQ+, Nebraska Competes
Lincoln YPG (www.lincolnypg.com) and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce (www.lcoc.com) are proud partners of OutNebraska (outnebraska.org), a statewide, nonpartisan education and advocacy organization empowering and celebrating LGBTQ+ Nebraskans. OutNebraska envisions Nebraska communities that embrace and celebrate the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ people, and so they have launched a new project: Nebraska Competes.
Nebraska Competes is a nonpartisan coalition of businesses committed to achieving nondiscrimination policies at the community and state levels in order to attract the best talent, to increase business-to-business and business-to-consumer relationships, and to grow Nebraska’s economy.
There are 21 states where consumers and employees are protected from being denied jobs, housing, and services based upon perceived sexual orientation/gender identity—Nebraska is not one of these states. Discriminatory laws can drive away the top talent Nebraska needs to fill 21st century jobs.
Volunteers working with OutNebraska will be reaching out to businesses in the coming months to join the Nebraska Competes coalition. The coalition will launch a Nebraska Competes website with coalition members in June 2020.
