SCC Offering One-Year Plumbing Technology Program

With a growing need for more qualified plumbers in Nebraska, Southeast Community College (www.southeast.edu) is introducing a new Plumbing Technology program. The program will begin next January at the Milford Campus. Students can begin registering for the program on October 29.

“The diploma program will provide students the knowledge and skills necessary to design, install and repair residential and commercial plumbing,” said SCC’s Construction, Manufacturing and Technology Dean Glenn Pasho. “Students will learn plumbing codes, plumbing theory and encounter significant hands-on experiences.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the plumbing industry will need approximately 138,000 new workers by the year 2022, not including the baby boomers who will retire during the next 10 years.

“In the SCC service area we are projecting a 15% growth in a high-wage, high-demand high-skill career that offers multiple career advancement paths,” Pasho said.

Students can earn their plumbing diploma in one year. The hands-on program will mostly take part in the plumbing lab, as well as a residential home that is constructed twice a year on the Milford Campus.

Students who complete the program could receive a couple of dollars more per hour in starting wage, and a year in SCC’s program could count toward an apprentice certificate.
