Fresh Start Announces Upcoming Spring Open House, Project Funway Events

Fresh Start (www.FreshStartHome.org) is excited to announce two exciting events coming up this year that all should mark on their calendars: the spring open house and Project Funway.

Please join Fresh Start at 6433 Havelock Ave. on Thursday, May 19, for their spring open house from 4 to 6 p.m. The board of directors invites the community to stop by for tours of the shelter, to enjoy appetizers, to socialize, and to learn more about the services offered by Fresh Start. The Daisy Thrift Shop will be open as well. All purchases at The Daisy go towards helping women in need.

Then, on Friday, November 4, Fresh Start will present Project Funway. For this event, designers create fashionable clothing that will be modeled on a runway walk. They take thrift store and cast-off clothing and make it into one-of-a-kind, glamorous outfits. A panel of judges will vote on the most innovative, best use of materials, and best of show. Guests will be able to vote on their favorite designs. Project Funway will feature local designers and students from the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design in the College of Education and Human Services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Fresh Start is a transitional shelter for women experiencing homelessness. Its 24-bed home shelters women for up to one year. The nonprofit provides real resources and assistance for women as they work to turn their lives around.
