Jeff Melichar Becomes Third-Generation Owner of Melichar’s 66

Jeff Melichar has become an official part-owner of Melichar’s 66 (facebook.com/Melichars-66-Sales-and-Service-108495172525554), located downtown on the corner of 9th and P Streets, making him a part of a three-generation legacy. Jeff’s grandfather started the business in October 1969 and Jeff’s father Bruce partnered with him after he graduated high school a few years later. Jeff has basically grown up at the station, working there since the summer of 1997. As the business evolved into using computers to track parts, order inventory, and invoicing, Jeff gravitated toward those aspects of the job. All the while, he was learning how to repair vehicles from his father and other technicians. He also took trainings offered through Napa Auto Parts and Phillips 66 on vehicle repair and running a service station. After years of serving a Melichar’s 66’s invoice writer and front-end manager, Jeff decided to officially partner with his dad in January 2022 as he starts his journey into retirement.

“It has been a wonderful experience for me to watch my father run the shop and learn how to be a respectable businessman over the last 20+ years,” said Jeff. “Being able to take his wisdom and knowledge and pair it with modern technology has only continued our success as a local family business. I pride myself on being able to treat our customers fairly and greet them as friends. To continue the business my grandfather started is a matter of pride. I enjoy the connections and relationships I have made over the years here.”

Jeff has a 12-year-old son named Griffin and three dogs at home. He is a big Husker fan and will also travel to Kansas City for Chiefs football or Sporting KC soccer games. Jeff also loves to cook, go to movies and concerts, and spend time with his close-knit family.
