The Nebraska Safety Council (NESC, nesafetycouncil.org) continues to grow and expand its offerings across the Midwest, which has led to the addition of three new team members: Samantha Gentry, development manager; Brian York, safety services manager; and Sheila Keck, safety services coordinator.
Samantha received a bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences from UNL. She is a current graduate student at UNO pursuing a master’s degree in nonprofit management. Previously, she was the development manager at The Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum. In her free time, she enjoys learning new things, going on adventures, and hanging out with her dog Rico and her cat Olive.
Brian brings 27 years of experience working in nonprofits and over 20 years of military experience. He has worked as a curator and a leader, developing skills in conservation, research, design, and collection management with several Nebraska museums and the National Park Service. Brian’s military experience focuses on logistics, planning, and leadership. During Brian’s down time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and staying active.
Sheila most recently worked as a para educator for Lincoln Public Schools for 16 years and previously as an adult residential tech at a drug/alcohol treatment facility for four years. Outside of work, Sheila can be found hanging out with her family—all three of her sons and three grandchildren live in Lincoln—or painting, reading, and being outside as much as possible.
“With growth, comes the need for additional staff so that we can continue to provide the best service to our members,” says John M. Lefler, Jr., executive director of NESC. “Each team member brings insight and unique skills that enhances how we operate. This is crucial to building out our vision as we dive into the upcoming year.”
The mission of the Nebraska Safety Council is to provide education and leadership to empower Nebraskans to live safe and healthy. They offer comprehensive programs, training courses, events, and services that are designed to improve employee care at a desk, on the production floor, behind the wheel, and on the job.
