It’s not too early to plan for Branched Oak Observatory’s (BOO, theboo.org) upcoming ninth Annual StarBQ held at the Branched Oak Observatory on September 9 from 5 to 11 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend to see the newly expanded Observatory grounds. Tour their new Kunkel Family Multipurpose Center and walk on their new sidewalks for ease of access to all buildings and telescopes. Also, visit their Gift Shop to take some memories home.

There will be plenty of activities for you to enjoy, from safe solar viewing to making projects like a sun dial or planosphere. BOO’s trained staff will make it a breeze. They will also have a lot of fun stuff for the kids to make and take as well.

BOO’s SATCOM array is another experience where attendees will talk with satellites and maybe even the International Space Station. And, for a truly out of this world experience, come and send your voice to the moon and back through their EME (Earth Moon Earth) radio system and become a vocal astronaut!

Branched Oak Observatory will have two food trucks, a cover band and drawings for some nice binoculars in honor of all the branches of service to this nation. If you are a Veteran or are currently serving, you will be put into a special raffle.

Established in 2015, Branched Oak Observatory is an astronomy park located just southeast of the Branched Oak Recreation Area 20 miles outside of Lincoln. For more details about upcoming events, visit www.facebook.com/branchedoakobservatory or theboo.org.
