Community Action Honored by Homeless Coalition for Human Services Efforts

Community Action Partnership (communityactionatwork.org) of Lancaster and Saunders Counties received the 2019 Human Services Agency Award by the Lincoln Homeless Coalition on November 22, 2019. This annual recognition event honors individuals and organizations that have made a significant, positive impact in addressing homelessness in Lincoln.

This year, Community Action was recognized for its work to prevent and end homelessness in Lincoln. An active participant within Lincoln’s Coordinated Entry System, Community Action recognizes that access to safe and stable housing is fundamental to a person’s ability to reach economic stability. In 2019, Community Action provided over 32,000 services to 5,839 individuals within its homelessness prevention programming.

Michelle Martinez, Director of Community Services at Community Action, accepted the honor on behalf of the agency. In her acceptance, Martinez emphasized the importance of partnership when it comes to addressing homelessness in Lincoln.

“We recognize that preventing and ending homelessness is not a goal one person, or even one agency, can accomplish alone,” she said. “It is through these partnerships, these collective contributions of all our agencies within the homeless coalition, that we can accomplish our goals.”

In addition to being honored as an agency, three Community Action employees received recognition at the event. Jim Danaher received the 2019 Individual Award for his work within Project Connect Lincoln, and both Sarah Fentress and Michelle Martinez received certificates of recognition.

In 2019, Community Action Partnership served over 20,000 individuals. To learn more about Community Action and its work to address homelessness in Lincoln, visit communityactionatwork.org.
