Concordia Volunteers Make a Difference on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
While the Concordia University, Nebraska (www.cune.edu) campus was closed for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, many faculty, staff, and students volunteered hours of service. Concordia received grants from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund, Nebraska District and Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) for one service project to prepare flood buckets. These are five-gallon buckets filled with cleaning supplies for use by individuals who have survived a flood, shipped all over the United States for disaster relief. Concordia partnered with Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln to store them until needed. Additionally, 34 individuals from Concordia University attended Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) Disaster Training held by Rev. Meyer of the LCMS Disaster Relief organization. By the end of this workshop, participants were FEMA certified as faith-based first responders and received an ID card that can be used anywhere a disaster happens.
