“Girl Noticed” Makes its Mark in Lincoln
Artist Lori Pratico and photographer Elizabeth Sanjuan hope to create “Girl Noticed” (girlnoticed.com) murals in all 50 states over a three year period. The City of Lincoln, in partnership with NeighborWorks Lincoln and Lutheran Family Services, brought the project to town this summer. On Saturday, August 27th, the south N Street wall of the new Health 360 Clinic at 23rd and O St. became the perfect place for the charcoal mural displaying the “hidden strength and importance of women in our society.” Nominations were taken and more than 30 girls and women submitted their stories. This mural depicts two women who came to Lincoln as refugees:
Haifaa Al-Saadi, who is completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, plans to become an art therapist. She was born in a refugee camp in Saudi Arabia, and came to the U.S. at age 2, after her parents fled their home country of Iraq. Thuy Nguyen is the owner of Little Saigon Plaza on N. 27th Street. She came to the U.S. 40 years ago as a refugee from Vietnam and will be celebrating 25 years in business this next year.
Take a ride down N Street and see the beautiful “Girl Noticed.” You will be inspired! For more information, visit girlnoticed.com.
