Beginning in February, Hearts United for Animals became aware of a potential animal hoarding situation in Auburn, Nebraska. After concerned community members and local authorities were alerted, the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department partnered with HUA in April to safely remove more than 30 cats and 12 dogs from the property.
Upon rescue, all animals required immediate medical attention. HUA staff provided vaccinations, testing, medications, grooming and spay/neuter services. Several animals were severely underweight and living in unsanitary conditions, including seven puppies that had been separated from their mother. Two dogs also tested positive for Giardia and began treatment immediately.
The rescued animals are currently receiving ongoing care through HUA and partner organizations while the case remains under investigation by the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department. The animals will not be available for adoption while the case is ongoing. HUA remains committed to providing medical care, nourishment and safe shelter for as long as necessary. Community support and donations help make this lifesaving care possible as expenses for food, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation continue to grow.
HUA extends its gratitude to the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department for its continued partnership and dedication to animal welfare in the community.
