Lighthouse Chosen as Lowe’s 100 Hometowns Recipient, Unveils New Greenhouse

Lighthouse After School Program (www.lincolnlighthouse.org) was chosen as a recipient of the Lowe’s 100 Hometowns. As a result, Lighthouse’s dream of building their own greenhouse is now a reality. To celebrate, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new greenhouse, located at 2601 N St., on November 8 with the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. Lighthouse values the importance of local food sourcing. The greenhouse will allow them to grow vegetables all year long for the Food Program’s youth and families. Their goal is to eventually host their own farmer’s market.

Lowe’s 100 Hometowns is part of the company’s 100-year milestone anniversary of serving communities across America. Lowe’s has committed to completing 100 impact projects to celebrate their centennial and support worthy initiatives nationwide. The 100 projects span 36 states and will help thousands of families from coast to coast, each of them with a unique story to tell.

In their 31st year, Lighthouse After School Program is an accredited after-school program that offers middle and high school aged-youth academic support, evening meals, and enrichment/recreational activities during non-school hours, Monday through Friday, all 12 months of the year. It is vitally important for youth to have a safe harbor during the high risk, after-school hours. Visit www.lincolnlighthouse.org for more information or call (402) 475-3220.
