The LUX Center for the Arts recently hosted “Reconfigure”, an interactive community art workshop on August 29.  The workshop was led by installation artist Casey Whittier in conjunction with her exhibition “The Need for Fertile Ground” which opened on First Friday, August 1.

Whittier’s goal for the workshop was to involve the public actively with her art—to create a work in clay that has been formed by the community. The foundation for the workshop began with a landscape created from clay at Whittier’s opening reception.  After the workshop the piece will remain in the gallery for continued interaction with the public until the close of the exhibition on September 27.

Whittier’s work explores the intersections between nature and imagination, desire and destruction and the overriding issue of mortality. Through intimate sculptures and large-scale installations, her work often addresses issues of scale and space in relationship to the human body.

LUX Center for the Arts, located in historic University Place at 2601 N. 48th Street, is free and open to the public.  Free parking is available on the west side of the building just off of 48th and Baldwin. For more information about the LUX and upcoming activities, please call (402) 466-8692 or visit www.luxcenter.org
