LUX Center for the Arts (www.luxcenter.org) is set to host a First Friday opening reception for an exhibition of new work by Lauren Mabry on October 2 from 5-8 p.m.

Artist Lauren Mabry treats each of her large wheel-thrown cylinders like a canvas, covering each surface with painterly marks in a range of colors and textures that are at once skillful and playful in their application. Mabry, who obtained her MFA in Lincoln, currently travels between Philadelphia and Arizona to produce industrially sized ceramic sculptures in collaboration with Mission Clay Products. This fall she will be a resident artist at the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Center in China. Mabry’s exhibition will be on display in our Folsom Gallery through November 27.

“Greater Nebraska Part II: About Human” by Craig Roper will also continue to be featured in the West Gallery through October 30. This is the second show in a two-show series featuring the work of seven Nebraska-based artists who examine what it means to be human.

LUX Center for the Arts is free and open to the public. Free parking is available on the west side of the building just off of 48th and Baldwin.  LUX Center for the Arts is located in historic University Place at 2601 N. 48th Street.
